The celebration of Epiphany is to remember the visit of the magi to the Christ Child with gifts. This has also led to the tradition of blessing chalk that is used to mark the entrance to our homes with a blessing for the year. This is in recognition of the hospitality shown by the Holy Family to all who came to honour the Christ Child, that even the outsider was welcomed. This then is why we bless our own homes too.
